The LUX knob adjusts the ambient light sensitivity (range from 3 to 2000 LUX). When the ambient light is insufficient and you want the unit to work both day and night, set the knob to the day position (sun icon). When the ambient light is less than 3 LUX, set the knob to the night position (moon icon).
